Edinburgh

The city of Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and has a population of 449,000. The financial industry is an important employer in the city of Edinburgh, with around 11% of people living in the city employed in this sector. Of jobs based in the city, around 14% are in finance. Around 76% of the city’s working age population are economically active and some 72% of working age people are in employment. The city of Edinburgh is made up of 58 wards and each ward has one councillor. Since 1999, the Scottish Parliament has been re-established in Edinburgh. The Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) of Edinburgh covers an area of 1,724 km2, with a population of 778,000.
