Kielce

Kielce is the capital of Swietokrzyskie Voivodship and has a population of 212,429. Previously the city’s growth was based on the exploitation and processing of metal, ores, marbles and sandstone. Nowadays, the construction, electric machinery and food industries are key drivers of the city’s economy, although exploitation of limestone, plaster, sulphur, dolomites, marls and mineral water are also still important. Situated at the foot of Swietokrzyskie Mountains the city attracts many tourists. Kielce is also a very active trade and exhibition centre in Poland. The city is governed by the mayor, two deputy mayors and the city council which is made up of 30 members. Kielce is a part of Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) with a population of 407,318 covering an area of 2,357 km2.
