Warszawa

Warszawa is the capital of Poland and is the country’s largest city with a population of 1,689,201. The city is located on the Wisla River in Mazowieckie Voivodship. Warszawa is the administrative and political centre. National and governmental institutions and many domestic and foreign companies are located in the city. The most important industrial sectors are the automotive, electronic, steel, chemical, pharmaceutical, clothing, food and manufacturing industries. Warszawa now has a growing service sector and the city is the most important financial centre in Poland, attracting many foreign investors. The city is the largest cultural centre and one of the most significant academic and research centres in Poland. The historic centre of Warszawa, reconstructed after World War II, is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites and is a major tourist attraction. The city is governed by the mayor, four deputy mayors and the city council which consists of 60 members. Warszawa is a part of Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) with a population of 2,631,902 that covers an area of 5,199 km2.
