Sassari

Sassari lies in the north-eastern part of the Italian island of Sardegna. The city, the second largest town in Sardegna, has a population of 129,086.

Sassari is an administrative and agricultural trade centre, handling cheese, wine, fruit, and olive oil. Zinc and lead are mined nearby. The city is a focus for tourism, manufacturing industry and commerce. These activities make up the essence of Sassari and characterise the city’s economic and social life, as well as its relations with the rest of the region.

It is also a financial centre, with two of the three Sardinian banks having their head offices in the city .

The city is part of a larger urban zone (LUZ) of 205,644 inhabitants covering an area of 1222.3 km2.

The municipal council of Sassari which governs and administers the city is made up of 41 elected members including the Mayor.
