Ancona

Ancona is the economic and cultural capital of the Marche region in central Italy, located on the Adriatic Sea. The city has a population of 101,424.

It hosts one of the most important ports in the Adriatic region for passengers, freight and fishing. High quality tourism activities are concentrated in the Portonovo bay.

The city’s economy is based on the tourism industry, and the food and fishing industries. A famous industry of the city is that of the shipyards.

Ancona and its surrounding environment produce wine, olives and vegetables. In addition, the manufacturing of paper and handicrafts are further characteristic of the city of Ancona.

Ancona is part of a larger urban zone (LUZ) of 211,996 inhabitants covering an area of 404 km2.

The municipal council of Ancona which governs and administers the city is made up of 41 elected members including the Mayor.
