Dublin

Dublin, comprising the city of Dublin and its suburbs in the counties of Fingal, South Dublin and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, had a population of just over 1 million according to the results of the 2002 Census of Population. The economy of Dublin City has grown substantially over the past decade. The labour force has increased by more than 17% since 1991. The city area has a large service sector. Leading manufacturing sectors are electronics and engineering, food, drink and tobacco and paper and printing. Dublin City Council is responsible for local public services in the city area. The elected council comprises 54 members. The Lord Mayor is elected each year by the city council. The Dublin Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) comprising Dublin as well as the adjacent counties of Wicklow, Meath and Kildare had just over 1.5 million in habitants in 2002.
