Kavala

Kavala is part of the East Macedonia region and is the capital of the prefecture of Kavala. It has a population of 76,000. Kavala is a picturesque town in Macedonia. The city is a commercial and industrial centre and the second biggest hub in northern Greece. The city attracts many tourists, since it is near the ancient Greek site of Thasus and other archaeological sites in the area. Kavala’s municipal council administers the city and represents the inhabitants of Kavala. However, central government is still responsible for areas such as planning, economic development and the environment. Kavala is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) of 161,000 inhabitants.
