Ioannina

Ioannina is the capital of the prefecture of Ioannina and has a population of 85,000. Ioannina is situated on the banks of the Vegoritida lake and has an important historical heritage and monuments. It is the largest commercial, industrial, and spiritual centre of the region of Epirus. Ioannina’s municipal council administers the city and represents the inhabitants of Ioannina. However, central government is still responsible for areas such as planning, economic development and the environment. Ioannina is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) that contains 205,000 inhabitants.
