Vigo

Vigo is located in the north-west of Spain in the autonomous commnunity of Galicia, in the province of Pontevedra. The city has a population of 298.000.

The economy of Vigo is linked to the fisheries sector, industry and services. The automobile industry is one of the engines of the Vigo’s economy. Being a port, shipbuilding and fishing are also very important and especially so for fish comercialisation.

There are 16 elected city representatives in Vigo. Important powers are exercised jointly with the regional authorities, which include housing, planning, welfare and heritage.

The city is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) that has a population of over 559.000 inhabitants.
