Alicante/Alacant

The city of Alicante belongs to the Spanish autonomous community Comunidad Valenciana. It has a population of 330.000.

Nowadays, the majority of Alicante´s active population works in the service sector, with a large proportion of jobs in the wholesale and retail sector and specialised business services.

The municipal authority of Alicante is made up of 29 representatives. The city council exercises joint powers with the regional authorities including decisions on housing, planning, welfare and heritage issues.

Alicante is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) of 455.000 inhabitants.
