Bilbao

Bilbao is located in the north of Spain. It is the largest city in the Basque Country and the capital of the province of Vizcaya. The city has a population of 354,145 inhabitants.

Bilbao’s economy is focused on the industrial sector (steel, energy production, machine tool and aeronautics industry). It has the most important port in the north of Spain.

The municipal authority of Bilbao governs and administers the city and is made up of 29 representatives. The city council exercises joint powers with the regional authorities including decisions on housing, planning, welfare and heritage issues.

Bilbao is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) of over 945.000 inhabitants.
