Logroño

Logroño is located in northern Spain, and is the capital of the autonomous community of La Rioja. The city has a population of 132,000. Logroño is the industrial and commercial centre of the region as well as one of the stages on the Caminho de Santiago (Way of Saint James) pilgrim trail that attracts many tourists each year. In addition, the region of La Rioja is well known as an outstanding wine-growing area. The municipal authority of Logroño is elected every four years. The city council exercises joint powers with the regional authorities including decisions on housing, planning, welfare and heritage issues. Logroño is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) of 270,000 inhabitants.
