Oviedo

The city of Oviedo is located in the autonomous community of Asturias in Spain. It has a population of 201,000. Oviedo is the centre of a thriving trade in agricultural products. Its other industries include quarrying of marble, and the manufacture of arms, cotton and woollen fabrics, iron goods, leather and matches. Oviedo is also well known as a university town. The municipal authority of Oviedo is elected every four years. The city council exercises joint powers with the regional authorities including decisions on housing, planning, welfare and heritage issues. Oviedo is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) of over 1 million inhabitants.
