Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela is located in the north-west of Spain in the autonomous community of Galicia. The city has a population of 93,000. Santiago is situated in the province of A Coruña which is well-known for its fishing and manufacturing industries. Tourism is also a key feature of the city’s economy, as Santiago is the last city on the route of the ‘Caminho de Santiago de Compostela’. The city council of Santiago governs and administers the city. The city council exercises joint powers with the regional authorities of Galicia including decisions on housing, planning, welfare and heritage issues. Santiago de Compostela is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) of over 1.1 million inhabitants.
