Valladolid

Valladolid is located northwest of Madrid and is the capital of the autonomous community of Castilla and Leon. The city has a population of 318,000. The city of Valladolid is well known for the production of industrial foodstuffs using the products of the region such as wheat, maize, barley and oats. The city’s economy is also heavily reliant on the automobile industry. The region also produces hemp, flax, various fruits, red and white wine, oil and madder. The municipal council of Valladolid is elected every four years. The city council exercises joint powers with the regional authorities including decisions on housing, planning, welfare and heritage issues. Valladolid is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) of 498,000 inhabitants.
