Murcia

The city of Murcia is the capital of the province of Murcia and is located in the autonomous community of Murcia in Spain. The city has a population of 367,000. Murcia is connected to the rest of Spain by rail, and is an important industrial centre. The city is also expanding its service sector. However, the province of Murcia is mainly characterised by its agrarian sector. The municipal council of Murcia is elected every four years. The city council exercises joint powers with the regional authorities including decisions on housing, planning, welfare and heritage issues. Murcia is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) of nearly 1.2 million inhabitants.
