Valencia

The city of Valencia belongs to the Spanish autonomous community Valenciana. It has a population of 747,000. Today, the majority of Valencia’s active population works in the service sector, with a large proportion of jobs in the wholesale and retail sector and specialised business services. The city has a large port used for the traffic of goods and passengers. More recently, Valencia has also become a leading congress and conference venue in Europe. There are 33 elected city representatives in Valencia. Important powers are exercised jointly with the regional authorities, which include housing, planning, welfare and heritage. The city is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) that has a population of over 2.2 million inhabitants.
