Saarbrücken

Saarbrücken is the capital of the German State of Saarland. With its 180,000 inhabitants, the city is the economic centre of a cross-border conurbation located between the EU’s two big economies of Germany and France.

Being the economic centre of the region, Saarbrücken’s economic activities focus on business services as well as technological services and on supply industries for car manufacturing. With its university and research institutes, such as the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence – DFKI and the Max Planck Institutes, Saarbrücken is also a place for software development and applications. The number of IT companies is rising.

Saarbrücken is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) as defined by the Urban Audit, that covers an area of 1,537 km² and contains over 855,000 inhabitants.
