Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe is situated on the River Rhine in the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The city has a population of 280,000. The city is home to two of Germany’s highest courts, the Federal Supreme Court and Federal Constitutional Court. Karlsruhe has a (technical) university and a number of research institutions. The city is also home to numerous cultural institutions of national importance, and has a successful congress centre and a newly built trade fair venue. The city is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ), as defined by the Urban Audit, of 698,000 inhabitants that covers an area of 1,258 km2.
