Weimar

Weimar is located in East Germany in the federal state of Thüringen (Thuringia). The city has a population of 64,000. Weimar’s rich cultural heritage with regards to literature, architecture and design, and its past role in politics means that tourism plays a key role in the city’s economy. In 1999 Weimar was designated “Cultural City of Europe” bringing over 6 million tourists into the city. The city is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ), as defined by the Urban Audit, that covers an area of 887 km2 and contains nearly 154,000 inhabitants.
