Trier

Trier is an economic and cultural centre in the German federal state of Rheinland-Pfalz, situated on the River Moselle, close to the border with France and Luxembourg. The city has a population of just over 100,000. The city’s traditional industry is wine growing. Based on a rich cultural heritage, tourism is also one of the main economic drivers of the city. A quarter of all employees work in manufacturing, notably the tobacco industry. The city is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ), as defined by the Urban Audit, of 237,000 inhabitants that covers an area of 1,208 km2.
