Göttingen

Göttingen is located in the southern part of the German federal state of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony). The city has a population of 124,000. Alongside the traditional pillars of the economy of Göttingen the industrial sector also plays an important role. The city has built considerable know-how in the fields of precision engineering and optical industries, such as the production of microscopes and lenses, precision and analytical scales, scientific measuring devices and laboratory equipment. Göttingen is the seat of an important 250 year-old university from which 44 Nobel Prize winners have originated. The city is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ), as defined by the Urban Audit, of over 416,000 inhabitants that covers an area of 2,384 km2.
