Halle an der Saale

Halle an der Saale is the largest city of the German federal state of Sachsen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt). The city has a population of 243,000. Halle is characterised by its growing service sector. A considerable number of scientific institutions are located in the city. The best-known local products are Hallorenkugel chocolates, Kathi cake mix and railway rolling stock built at Ammendorf. The city is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ), as defined by the Urban Audit, of 465,000 inhabitants that covers an area of 1,568 km2.
