Vidin

Vidin is located in the northwestern part of the Danubian Plain. Its population in 2001 was 57,395. Vidin is located approximately 200 kilometers away from Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia. Its location makes it easily accessible and determines its importance for the national and the European transport networks. Two European transport corridors cross the municipality: No. 4 - Kraiova (Romania) - Vidin - Sofia - Koulata; and No. 7 along the Danube. The city of Vidin will the location for the construction of a second bridge on the Danube River in its Bulgarian section. Public sector employment is concentrated in the following: education, healthcare and transport and communications. Private sector employment is concentrated in the following industries: processing, and transport and communications. The Large Urban Zone of Vidin covers the territory of the entire municipality (LAU1) with a population of 68,164.
