Pleven

Pleven occupies the Central part of the Danube lowland, and is situated 170 km away from the capital of Sofia. Pleven has a diverse economy, dominated by activities such as machine building, oil processing, cement and glass production, light and food industries, agriculture, commerce and services. Investments in Pleven are steadily increasing and the past four years have seen investments of over 320 million BGN (EUR 160 million)into the city. The unemployment rate for 2000-2003 also decreased from 17 % to 10 %, helping to create an attractive business environment in the city. The Pleven Large Urban Zone (LUZ) has over 190,000 inhabitants, 137,466 of them living in the city itself, making Pleven a strong urban centre, and the seventh largest city in Bulgaria.
