Burgas

The city of Burgas has a population of 192,390. The city’s origins can be traced back to the Iron Age. The city’s economy is dominated by one of the best developed industries in Bulgaria. Principal activities include oil refineries, machine building, cable production, ship yards and the food industry. The largest oil refinery in the country is being built near the city and the Port of Burgas is also the largest in the country. Tourism is very well represented, primarily in the areas bordering the Black Sea. The city’s partnerships with Rotterdam (Holland), Gomel (Byelorussia), Zaporozie (Ukraine), and Alexandrupolis (Greece) have created new opportunities for investment and development. Burgas is part of a Large Urban Zone (LUZ) covering a population of 236,147.
