Brugge

Brugge is located in the province of West Flanders in the Flemish region of Belgium, and has a population of 117,000. The economy of Brugge is dominated by the public sector (notably public administration, health and education). Employment levels are also high in the areas of retail trade services, hotels and the catering industry. Tourism is increasingly an important driver of the city’s economic growth. The overall responsibility for running the city lies with the City Council. The province of West Flanders also provides other important public services, such as urban management and spatial planning. Brugge is part of a Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) that covers an area of 410 km2 with a population of over 166,000 inhabitants.
